PLACES TO VISIT IN KONARK

Konark lies on the coast by the Bay of Bengal at a distance of 65 km from the capital city of Bhubaneswar. The most attractive place for which it is famous is the site of the 13th-century Sun Temple, also known as the Black Pagoda.

The temple is a masterpiece of architecture. Built in black granite during the reign of Narasimhadeva-I, the temple is now a World Heritage site.

CHANDRABHAGA BEACH: Chandrabhaga Beach is situated three km east of the Sun temple of Konark. Stimulatingly it was once considered a place of natural cure for lepers and has been an ideal place for religious activities like performing shradh in memory of forefathers especially during the holy Hindu month of Magha when lakhs of people throng the sea beach to take holy dip. It has been a big hunting ground for poets, artists and lovers. A moment’s pause at Chandrabhaga is believed to be a great fatigue healer. Numerous visitors to Konark make Chandrabhaga a positive stop. It is considered one of the finest beaches along the eastern coast of India. The beach holds great importance in the cultural and traditional identity of Orissa. Chandrabhaga Beach is believed to have witnessed the rise and fall of the Konark Temple. Because of the cultural importance it holds, many cultural activities are held at the beach. Chandrabhaga Beach experiences cool and amusing weather throughout the year. So, the beach can be visited anytime in the year. However, the best months to visit the beach are February, October, November and December.
